Juniors > Sail a Tall Ship or a Challenger Yacht
Would you like to voyage on a Tall Ship or a Challenger Yacht to experience the adventure of being a crew on a tall ship or to take part in an ocean race? If so, and you are aged between 16 and 25, and have been an active sailing member of the Club for at least two years, the Club may be able to help you.
Since 1978 the Club and its members have sponsored nearly 40 young sailors on Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT), formerly the Sail Training Association, voyages in the Channel, across the Atlantic down to the Azores, in the Mediterranean and around the Canary Islands. All of our sponsored sailors have given good reports and have enjoyed themselves immensely.
The Tall Ships Youth Trust is a charity which provides opportunities for young people to go to sea on the Trust's ocean going sail training vessels. To date, more than 100,000 trainees have sailed more than 1.8 million nautical miles on TSYT's fleet: a 60m brig, Stavros S Niarchos; four 22m ocean-going Challenger Yachts; an 18m ketch; and a 19m Catamaran, and before them: a 60m brig Prince William; and two 37m schooners: Malcolm Miller; and Sir Winston Churchill. The fleet has professional and volunteer crews; no sailing experience is required of the "trainees".
More information about the work of TSYT, its fleet and voyages may be found on the TSYT website.
Mount's Bay Sailing Club has a fund to sponsor eligible members aged between 16 and 25 who wish to take part in TSYT voyages. There are a number of dates available for voyages; the ships sail all the year round but school holidays tend to be the most popular. If you are interested in taking advantage of Club sponsorship or would like more information please contact the Commodore or the Mirror Class Captain.
